About the lecture

About H.E. Mario Oyarzábal

The lecture will evaluate the progress made by the ILC in its 75ish years of existence, in terms of the topics addressed and the contribution to the progressive development and the codification of international law, the format of its products, the representativeness of the ILC as a body and of the Commission's products from the standpoint of the different legal systems and genders, and the evolution of its working methods.

 

Mario Oyarzábal is Member of the United Nations International Law Commission and Membre associé de l’ Institut de Droit international. A career diplomat from Argentina, he was the former Legal Adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and currently serves as Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, representing also Argentina before the international organizations and tribunals in The Hague. He has litigated for Argentina before the International Court of Justice and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, and has published and lectured extensively in Argentina and abroad including in the Recueil des cours of The Hague Academy of International Law.
